About Us

Karate is a great hobby for both adults and children. It improves fitness, confidence and mental health. It is an inexpensive way of keeping fit as there are no monthly fees  or specialist equipment to buy. You do not need to have a high level of fitness to start, our training sessions are planned to help you develop your fitness, skills and confidence over time. To start with all you need is a loose fitting top and tracksuit bottoms, you can purchase a karate suit (Gi) at a later date if you decide to continue.

We have several classes each week to suit all levels of ability. Our members include both adults and children (minimum age 8). We are a family friendly, inclusive club and we have several family groups that train together in our sessions. In our experience children respond really well and enjoy training alongside other family members... and the adults do too!

Safeguarding

As a member of the HDKI we take the safeguarding of our members very seriously. Our instructor has an enhanced DBS certificate is fully insured and holds a full First Aid certificate, all of our sessions and gradings are conducted in an open forum and we encourage parents to become involved in our sessions (even if that is as a spectator!).

The HDKI GB safeguarding policies can be found on their website at: www.hdkigb.org/safeguarding

Try it for Free!

Your first session is free. This gives you the opportunity to try karate and see if it is something you would like to take up as a new hobby to improve your fitness, learn self-defence or make new friends.

Gradings

A grading is an examination conducted by a qualified HDKI grading examiner. Students are asked to perform techniques relevant to their grade and success at the grading allows the student to progress to the next coloured belt. Gradings are not compulsory, only those students who have shown the skills required, and feel confident enough to pass are entered into the grading.
